1. Don’t Give Up Easy

Whether you are starting a new job or even do not have a job. Whether you are on a tight budget or your budget is thriving, but you have other goals that are not coming together.  You cannot give up easily.

You must keep going.

Did Jonah give up easy? No.

He actually refused to accept his mission from the Lord and it caused a storm.  The waves won’t last forever because God takes your storm and teaches you a lesson.  You might not see the lesson until you are done, but it is teaching you a lesson. Maybe you need to find the promise God has given you.

You cannot run away from God’s plan. It is in you! He has called you to this path and you cannot give up easy.  God has called us all to not live as a slave to the debtor.  We need to obey and find a path to not give up during this mission to get out of debt.

Yes, it can be a war. It can be hard and you can feel defeated! Have you hit your limit?  Good.  Because you should give it all to the Lord anyways.  God does not want you to do it all yourself! Say, “God, I cannot do this without you!  I will not give up!  I know you can get me out of debt!” Say it over and over and over again. Do not give up easily! See past your fears, anxiety, and pain.

2. Stop Comparing & Competing

You can have everything you want!  Why are you comparing and competing with others?  Stop!

God did not put you here to compare to your neighbor.  He did not put you here to be like the Jones. He did not put you here to compete and be better than the person on the #debtfreecommunity who has already gotten out of debt and is building their wealth even further.

Let it go. Wake up and stop comparing and competing!

Our society is the worst at this because facebook is a liar. Instagram perfect is a liar. People have to learn that you can have all you want and when you get it…we bet that you will not be as happy with it as you thought.

Let me tell you a little story about comparing.  When we first set out and wanted to live tiny.  We would watch every Youtube video about tiny living. We followed every instagramer who was living that life! Saving the money, traveling the world, and it was calling our name!  Giving up all our belongings like God told us to. It was like “WE WANT THAT!”  Our God is making our life beautiful!

You want to know what is amazing?

We have that “tiny living” lifestyle now, and now we want to compare ourselves with people who have a house.  A bigger place. Why? Because the devil is always trying to get into our heads to make us feel like we have not won!

Know whatever you want.

You can get!

Stop comparing and competing.  Go the distances it takes for your path!

Your life is beautiful. Your stuff is what you wanted at one time.  Take the time to enjoy what your money has bought you right now. There are blue skys ahead and there is glory coming!

3. Get Grace

Are you searching for something? For more? A promotion? More money? A job?

Have you prayed and felt like God has not answered?

Paul asked 3 times in Corinthians for God to heal him, but God answered him like this…

2 Corinthians 12:9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

God has what it takes.  We always love to do this. Lord, “I am weak without you!”  “I am poor without you!” Because really it is true!  While we are on the adventure again to get debt free we are on the road to keep obeying him.

Which brings me to my next point. Be thankful for how far you’ve come!

4. Be Thankful for How Far You’ve Come

I have been 100% debt free.  When I was debt free, I gave so much more than we are currently giving.  However, God knows that when I obey him and get out of debt to not be a slave to the debtor. I will bless his people even more.

Let me share some of my blessings after debt-free life. After I paid off $32k of student loans!

I gave my car to my boyfriend at the time.  I did not know I would marry him.  I had not been in a serious relationship for more than a couple of months in 2 years. I was living a great life by myself.  I was debt free, and was living the best life.

But can I tell you something else, that is the “Why I asked you to marry me” my now husband says, “I knew I wanted to marry you when you gave me your car when we were only dating a few months. You were so selfless.”

What else did we do?  We raised the bar at the wedding because we were selfless.  It was about our day yes, but it was more about helping out people who were in our wedding.  Our pastor.  We gave him more than he expected.  We paid for our groomsmen’s suits.  In all and all, our wedding was less than 10k and God let us bless so many people that day!

Remember that you rise even more when you give more.

Remember you are not missing out!

It is your time!

It is your time to be thankful for what you have!  What you are doing!  You are getting out of debt! Good for you! Praise him!  You are in the middle of this path?  Look back and say, “I have paid ___” and I can keep going!  It is day one and a new start to keep going!

5. Believe (you can keep going)

Last point for you all, while we are in the middle of a mess.  This is where your faith grows.  It is where you have to be patient.  You are going up against Goliath?  Good! Believe you can keep going!  Remember David was the underdog and defeated Goliath.

“…Saul said to David, ‘Go, and the Lord be with you.’”1 Samuel 17: 37

God will make you better tomorrow.  He has your future in his hands.  Do not be afraid.  Keep going.

Know that you can get out of debt!

You can grow!

He called you to rise above.  Then go and rise above!

Increase your belief and say, “God loves me and He will get me to the next level.”

Do not allow the devil to talk you out of it.  Do not!

You been at the bottom?  Good, now learn from it and let God take you even further.

Just like watching a plant grow is meditating. #plantmom #plantdad. God is meditating and watching you grow to be more like him!

Reach out and keep believing in him to make miracles in you and through you!

Overall, these tips are to help you get out of the mess you are in. To remind you that even though God is silent. He is working. Be dreamers and ask him. You got this with God help. Keep thanking him for how far you have come. You will be able to do it! You will make it through the mess!

3 TOP WORLD PANDEMIC BUDGET CHANGES YOU NEED TO MAKE to be successful

World Pandemic Budget Changes

The World Pandemic is still going on.  Most people thought it would be over by now since it started in March, but sadly it is not.  More and more people are being laid off and 78% of people were already living paycheck to paycheck.  We did not think we would have been in a world pandemic where we were stuck in the house for 3 months.  We did not think we would be in a recession.  We want to share with you a few things that helped us navigate through the pandemic with our money and we know will help you too!

Download the Budget Calendar Today!

We care about you and we want you to be okay with your money!  Enough is enough with this craziness.  We want you to come out on top of this pandemic better with your money!

Change of Income

Before the pandemic, we had Ember so it was a tough decision if I should stay home or go back to work. I always wanted to be a CEO of a company and move my way to the top so being a stay at home mom never crossed my mind until the pandemic hit and I did not want to put my baby in a day care system plus put her at risk for getting the virus.  I felt like it really was my time to leave the company and put my family first even despite of the world going into a recession and changing.

As many of you probably cannot relate to this exact situation, you can relate to losing your job or not having the same income as you did before.

We had a change of income for sure!  We left a two-income family home and became a one income family home.  It took a lot of rethinking, changing our habits, and consistent communication about spending. We even put more thought into tracking expenses with our spending tracker

You can purchase it if you had a change of income too and need some guidance.

1. Slimming Budget

When we were not making the same as before we had to slim our budget.  We were used to going out to concerts, festivals, hanging out with friends, going out to eat, and so much more to in our “spending.”  We decided we should also cancel subscriptions even though they are not a huge deal only $12 here and $10 there.  They add up and for us not using them to their full potential we decided to part ways with them.

I am sure you can relate to this.  We cancelled Netflix and we called Amazon Prime to get a $30 credit for not holding up to their piece of the contract of 1 day prime delivery.  We ended up saving $12.99 for 3 months and $30, so slimmed our budget $69 for 3 months.  Now, we can continue life without this extra stuff in life.

We also called to get discounts on other expenses we had such as our cell phones.  We went from $225 to $202. Savings us $23. You can do this too!  Look for deals!  We only called because we received an email from my husbands work for a $10 credit for each line. And to find out it was an advertisement that was misrepresented and they still gave us the deal without increasing our phone data.

As I am about getting ready to post this and you are reading this.  We have more slimming on our phone bill as this article is getting posted. We called again about 30 days later in August and slimmed the phone bill from $202 to $144!  How you might be asking?  That is a great question!  I saw another deal, but for another company.  We called AT&T again and spoke to the loyalty department and asked them about the deal for the other company and said, “What can you do for us?” He ended up giving us more data 100 gigs instead of 22 gigs at a cheaper price than we were paying plus added a co-vid 6 months deal.  We are saving $81 per month from our original $225 bill, which is $639 savings for 6 months! Then what we did was placed a reminder in 6 months to revisit it to ensure it does not go back up.

Gas even changed and food too!

If this sounds like you could use this kind of slimming your budget hack and fine tuning your budget, message us!  We will help you!

2. Different Look on Dates Nights

Date nights used to look like going out during the week, because let me tell you we still went to happy hour and found deals for date night.  But these date nights turned differently.

They ended up being more budget date nights, meal planning date nights, movie date nights in, picnics at the park, walks around new trails, and you know what….they were all frugal!

You can do this too!  Even now that we are out of quarantine!  You can make your date nights look differently since we have broken the habit of going out to eat.  Remember creating a habit takes 90 days and you have created it already! Do not go back.  Create your date nights in and be frugal!

3. Vacation Passport

These looked different for us too!  We always planned vacations each month to go somewhere with our tiny home.  Since RV parks were closed and not taking guest we had to think outside of the box for vacations and travel differently.  We decided to travel to see family so they could meet Ember.

You could pry think about making your vacations different then you used to too!  If you were used to traveling abroad, try seeing the land around you in the states.  Or if you were used to flying to an amusement park, try to take a hike or see adventure this way.

The thing is maybe you don’t feel safe at traveling on vacation at all and that is okay!  We respect your decision.  Save up for your next vacation to create a new habit of a vacation sinking fund.

Try using our yearly Bullet Journal Budget Tracker to save up for your next vacation.

We want to share with you some tips we have learned by living tiny with a baby that has saved us hundreds compared to others.  These will help you too even if you do not live tiny!

Let’s dive in…

Tip 1 – A Diaper Fund

Tip 2 – Make the gender a surprise

Tip 3 – Find a friend/family member to borrow clothes from

Tip 4 – Only buy a few books

Tip 5 – Go to the Library to get new books every week

Tip 6 – Do not buy a million toys

Tip 7 – Buy used toys off of the marketplace with multi-purpose

Tip 8 – A pack and play does wonders for a crib

Tip 9 – Cute baskets are a great dresser

Tip 10 – You don’t need all the “things” people tell you, you need!!

These tips I have summarized up top and will go into more details below, but we hope you are not overwhelmed because you are having a baby and did not plan on it (like us!)  Or you did plan on it and still are overwhelmed and excited, but you’re on a budget!

Tip 1 – A Diaper Fund

This was one of the best decisions we could have done.  We opened a diaper fund on Amazon and had our family and friends give to it for our diapers.  We had quite a bit in it and it lasted us about 6 months.  We recommend using this too, however diapers are cheaper at the store we have found plus you can usually find coupons!

I will also add to this my cousin did a diaper party and got a bunch of diapers, but if you did not know you do not use that many boxes in the first month or two because there are so many.  However, once you get to the Size 3, 4, and I am sure 5, 6, and 7 too. You will be spending more for less in the mega boxes.

We usually budget so far 1 large box a month.  (We are still on size 3 as of writing this post)

Tip 2 – Make the gender a surprise

Oh, did this help me!

We thought Ember was going to be a boy, so we bought a few gender-neutral items for her.  However, if I knew it was a girl before she came I would have bought so many bows, clothes, and honestly a bunch a crap we did not need or use!

Beware – when you find out!

The first couple weeks we had Ember and I knew it was a girl…I was like we need to buy PINK stuff!  Really, though I would have been fine without it all.

It is good to be surprised, and plus it is exciting to have your spouse tell you what it is after you’ve pushed and gone through the pain!

Tip 3 – Find a friend/family member to borrow clothes from

We are so lucky to have my sister who has three kids already, because when we went back home she gave us a lot of clothes!

My sister even said, these are all hand-me-downs or presents from family and friends for the kids.

We got so excited and bought items off of the marketplace but really did not need to!

Oh! Yes! We definitely recommend – no matter how cute they are – to not buy shoes for babies.

We are six months still not walking and not wearing shoes!  My mom bought us one pair of shoes and we have worn them maybe once or twice for a photo! To be honest, I hope they fit when she can walk!

Until then, we are not buying shoes for her.

Bullet Journal Budget Template

Tip 4 – Only buy a few books

Yes, you want to be a wonderful parent! I did too!

I personally did not like reading growing up or writing for that matter, but I wanted my kid to grow up enjoying both.

We received so many books from the baby shower, which I am glad because we could read them to her! However, don’t buy a bunch because you will get bored of them fast. We even traded some of the books already at the little house library’s and with friends to read different books at night.

Onto the next tip, and one I love because it’s free!

Tip 5 – Go to the Library to get new books every week!

Yes, this is why you should only buy a few books.

We live in a pretty big city and have only visited one library, but wow is it nice!  We got 4 books last week and read them!  Ember likes to eat the books, so I have to be careful when I let her look at them by herself.  We do not want to pay a fine, but really you guys the books are free and at our library NEW!

The library is free and there are so many books to get for your child!

Can you believe you can rent up to 50 items?

Tip 6 – Do not buy a million toys

This is so true!

I have been following people in the debt free community with babies, and they have so many toys for them everywhere in their house.  I want to tell you – you do not need a bunch of toys!  You as a parent actually get more bored of the toys then they do!

Ember has one small box of toys, a 4 in 1 sitting toy that we also use for her high chair, a 4 in 1 tummy time mat that turns into a ball pit, and a tummy time blow up mat that we also use as a pool splash pad for her.

She is the happiest baby ever too!  She loves to play with the bottle of rice I made for her and the oatmeal container more than her own toys!

We did not buy bath toys – use regular toys.

We did not buy beach toys – use regular toys.

Kids will be kids, but they do not need all we think they do.  We have a stroller and we use it daily, and my kid loves to go on walks!  She has the biggest smile on her face when we go to the park.  Which by the way, the park is also free fun!

Tip 7 – Buy used toys off of the marketplace with multi-purpose

This goes along with the last tip, but the 4 in 1 sitting toy.  We actually saved money on too by buying it off the marketplace.  If you search the marketplace, you will find that people pretty much give away baby stuff because there is so much of it.

All you need to do is disinfect it and clean it before giving it to your child.

SAVE, SAVE, SAVE MONEY!

Tip 8 – A pack and play does wonders for a crib

We use a pack and play for a crib and Ember sleeps great!  We actually bought it off of Facebook marketplace for $50, so saved us so much money here!

Tip 9 – Cute baskets are a great dresser

This goes along with tip 8, but a kid doesn’t need a dresser right away!  If you have a closet with some shelves, you can get cute baskets and do it real cheap here!  My sister even has it nice and cute with baskets on her changing table. Of course, living tiny we do not have a need for a changing table.

Which this is not a tip, but we did not buy a changing table.  We use the floor, the bed, anywhere in our tiny home!

Saved us more money!

Tip 10 – You don’t need all the “things” people tell you, you need!!

We have all seen a bunch of post on pinterest where it says, “10 items you must have for your baby” or “20 items we love for a new baby.”  Let me tell you this – you do not need all those things!  We do not have the baby shusher, mamaroo, swing, breast pump bra (use an old sports bra and cut holes in it!), a million bottles, spoons, and all of the “things” people say you need.

Remember you can still be content with having a baby and not buy all the stuff you think you need.  We actually recommend letting the baby come home and then deciding what you really need.  We learned we needed a few things once the baby came home, but not a lot.  The joy of a baby – they do not need a lot.  It’s the parents who need a lot or want to get them a lot!

Learn to just love them and they will be happy and content!  As my family says, the first one is the “sucker” baby!

If you enjoyed this post, please share this post and pin it!

You agree your baby doesn’t need a lot, like it and pin it to let new moms know!

Thought yes, I definitely need to do one of these tips, like it!

5 Ways to Increase your Income

How to paydown debt fast by increasing income.

Double tap, share, and follow Believe and Budget.

1. Learn about finances

Often people say, “I wish they taught me about life and finances in high school.”  “I did not learn anything from my parents.”  “How do I even start?”  I suggest learning to increase your income by reading books and educating yourself now!!  “What? Really?” “Yes!” Do you dislike reading like I do?  I had an 7th grade English teacher tell me I was not going to make it in the world because I disliked reading.  Anytime I had to read in class, I would refuse.   I would sit in the back when class first started and by the end of the school year.  They had assigned seats and made me sit right up front.  When I had someone, who told me I would not make it.  I made it a goal to become successful, but anyways back to reading or listening to books.

Here are a few of my favorite books:

  • I Will Teach You To Be Reach – Ramit Sethi
  • The Money Book for the Young, Fabulous, and Broke by Suze Orman
  • Money Master The Game – Tony Robbins
  • The Total Money Makeover – Dave Ramsey

Also, when you learn about finances. You will find money you did not know you had and it will increase your income! Trust us — we went from two incomes to only one. We cut out many things we did not “need” and have been able to successfully live off of one income, and still enjoying life!

2. Build your skills

Do not be afraid to apply for a job you do not fully qualify for.

While I was in high school and college, I worked for several jobs.  I was a cashier, a price adjuster, cut fruit in produce, stocked shelves, slices deli meat and cheeses, fried chicken, bartended, worked in a call center (worse job ever – but I built my communication and writing skills), and wellness instructor to inspire people.

Once I graduated I built my skills learning benefits, recruiting, a leader of human resources and operations to learn to get an ROI. I was a coordinator of cash, e-commerce, and customer service to teach, coach, and enhance the business.

Why does our generation not want to go up the corporate ladder?

It may because we are here to live for the journey.

Love what we do every day.

I am not saying you will LOVE your job all the time, but always be willing to build who you are!  It will build your income.

Bullet Journal Budget Template

3. Start out with an Ohhh Sh** Fund.

Calm your emotions.

Become less worrisome.

Ever heard voices in your head say you cannot save?  You cannot increase your income?

I want to tell you a little secret.

It is your emotions telling you this, and with a little self-discipline you can save.  Think of it as going to the Gym in January, usually by mid-January every new member does not show up again. However, if they had self-discipline to go 3 or 4 times a week and planned it they would continue to go month after month. Here is what I want you to do I will give you 3 options on what might work for you depending on your type of learning skills.

1. Apply for one-on-one coaching session with me to hear a plan on how we build a fund.

2.  Download a specific printable to be your activity to help you grow your savings.

3. Read 5 Ways to Save for an Emergency Fund.

4. Find ways to cut your fixed expenses.

When you have a goal in mind, it allows your brain to come up with solutions on where you are able to cut out expenses.  What is your goal on your journey?  To retire early, to get married have kids, be debt free, live in a nice house, travel the world, or have expensive hand bags? Then think about your biggest expenses first.  Do you need to downsize, sell materialistic items, or move to a better cost of living?  Downsizing usually helps the fastest along with moving to a better cost of living.  Do not just sit and wait because it will make your situation worse.

The best thing to remember is it is not forever.

You may meet people along this next journey who make a difference in your life.

5. Be friends with Everyone

Learn from friends.

People who are good with money; will talk about money on a daily basis.  They will ask you to go for activities that are free, find a cheap activity, or travel on a budget.  Ask any of my friends they know I talk about money and we travel on a budget.  They knew if there was a man in my life and was not financially set in a good way or wanted to be better; He would get pushed to the curb.  When I went on this date with someone who had a new hot rod car…all I could think about was how much he was in DEBT.  People who are not good with money and are on the “rat race” usually live a life they cannot afford.

Be friends who are spenders, and learn from their mistakes. I have friends who are addicted to Amazon, and will buy something from Amazon each day. They have packages from Amazon daily coming to their house! And you know what, Amazon has prime marketing for these kind of people! (No pun intended!) They change your searches to entice you to spend money! If you are an Amaze Prime spender. Do what you need to do to stop buying from them by deleting the app. Delete your card from their website. Leave the items you want in the shopping cart and come back to it in a week! I bet you…you will not want that item! Well, that’s how I am at least, and its fun to be able to look back and be like really I wanted that?

Overall, you can increase your income when you put your mind to it.  Ask the Lord to raise your finances, ask him to show you the way, and yes he will increase your income.  You just have to have a little faith.

I remember asking the Lord to find me a career when I was without a job for 3 months and he did! The Lord does amazing things in your life when you just ask and believe. Let him into your life and show you how amazing he can be! Trust me – he will not disappoint!

Let us know what we can do to help you too on your financial journey.  We would love to help by helping you point you in the right direction or even pray with you over your finances.  As I am writing this, I hope that God blesses you and increases your income. We ask him to give you “yes” to your prayers. We thank him for guiding us and showing us his path of success even if we do not understand it right now we will looking back on it!

Thank you for being apart of our Believe and Budget Family!

Grocery Shopping Tips by Area in the store

Already been pinning grocery shopping tips?

Let us share some tips that made us go from $200 per week to less than $100 per week!

We will break it down by each area of the grocery store.

Center Aisles…I will come back to this more at the end!

Skip the aisle in the center? No way!  This is where you create cheap meals!

Skip the end cap? No way! Get a great deal on these! Often stores don’t make money off of them!

Deli/Bistros/Bakery

Skip the deli to save money!

It has the biggest markup! It is where they grow the gross profit for stores!  Also, skip the bakery! It is full of product that grow sales too.

Get our FREE meal planning menu!

This meal planning menu had us go from spending $650 each month to less than $400 each month!

Produce

This is where you can get seasonal SALES!

Stores will put on hot deals to get you into their store!

They usually have 2 ads a month they aren’t making any money off of these items. The store is losing money to get you into their store! It is true!

Like blueberries for $1.99 – this is unreal, but you can find it in season!

Or strawberries for $1.00 – this is also an amazing price that you can find in season!

Another one we love are avocados for .88 cents! YES!

Buy those up! That is a saving gem!

Peppers, zucchinis and squash for .88 cents – you can find this amazing deal too! And yes, the store is losing money on it!

Meat

If your spouse is anything like mine this section cannot be skipped no matter what!  My husband always tells me he’s a growing man, and truth be told it was a shock when we first got married because I could each pretty much cereal for dinner or a grilled cheese and be absolutely okay!  I loved breakfast!

So here are some secrets.

The service counter items are most of the time marked up.  However, you can find deals when the store has too much on hand or they force out product to get it out of the warehouse!  I love these times because we always use Easy for You at Kroger and there is not a single upcharge, but they will add butter, seasoning, and place it in a bag that you can cook the meat in!

If items are pre-seasoned or precut and packaged, run like run far! Stores do contests on these to grow sales!

Buy things that are a family pack and look at the cents per pound. You will find they are cheaper.  How we get away with using a family pack of chicken or ground beef.  We will choose 3 different meals that are totally different from each other.

Beef – Beef Tacos, Goulash, and Burgers

Chicken – Chicken, Potato, & Veggie; Chicken Tortellini, White Chicken Chili

Do your research on what’s around your area!

You will find you can usually find beef and chicken cheaper if it is frozen too!

We love using Flipp – this is an awesome app to show comparison between stores.

Dairy/Frozen

These are items that sell and are mostly necessary for you and your family.

Milk, cheese are a major must haves in our home.  Yes, you could make milk to save money with dry milk.  But, I choose not to.

We cut out coffee creamer and just use milk this saves us about $2.50 per week.

Small win – easy change!

You can expand your yogurt if you really wanted to too!  I know someone who does this.  I choose not to do this…6 hours in a crockpot. NO thank you!  I am better at cooking my dinners in a crock pot.

You can find good deals in both departments.  Really buy store brand and only what you are going to use for the week! Unless you find a deal like

$1.88 Cheese – this is a great deal!

.99 cent Sour Cream/ Cottage Cheese – good deal!

.99 cent – Butter (you can find this deal, but not often) Usually during the baking season!

.88 cent frozen veggies is also a good deal! ($1.00 is an everyday price but it is an okay deal)

We shy away from things like orange juice and other juices because they are high priced and water from the tap is good.  We do buy them but only for special occasions like Christmas morning, Sunday brunch when we are all together, etc.

Center Aisles

The aisle everyone tells you to avoid to stay healthy, but I say. You can lose weight by budgeting your meals too and eating on a plan!

Easy cheap meals are found in the center aisles.

Here are some of our easy cheap meals…

  • Spaghetti
  • Beef Tacos
  • Korean Beef Bowls
  • Chicken, Potato, Veggie
  • Chicken Tacos
  • Sloppy Joes
  • Burgers and veggie
  • Tuna Melts

Find a big seasoning of taco seasoning—you will use it a lot on your money journey!

Brown sugar – we use for everything even dinner! We have a sweet tooth!

Sloppy Joes – a can of mix is cheap $1.00 (do not buy the seasoning packet — I did this a few months ago and it is just more complicated and more because you have to buy a can of tomato paste.)

Tuna melts (cheese, mayo, tuna, and bread) Cheap and kid friendly!

Now endcaps (items on the end of each aisle)

  • Top sellers and 85% of the time great sale items
  • Items to push through aka items that didn’t sell weeks before
    • Stores put a price on it and sell it! Stores sell it at cost or below.

Get used to your store.  Compare to other stores via apps. This is how to get really good at finding the best deal.

Once you do this once or twice you can become a pro!

Now, you are going to make the devil run when you go on your next shopping trip because you are going to be like WOW, I really did save a lot of money with these grocery shopping tips!

3 Debt Free Skills You should know!

Everyone knows how to dream. Dreaming big is often the normal. It’s something you are taught when you are little! However, maybe you find you don’t have the money to live the dream. How can you redefine your life and push your income to work for you rather than against you? Stay tuned!

Here are 3 easy tips that work for us and I am positive they will work for you too!

1. Make automatic savings a priority

This is the first thing I do when I start a new job. I set up direct deposit and find out if I can have multiple accounts attached. This helps because its out of sight out of mind. Start small. Don’t start with sending $100 to this fund and $200 to a sinking fund unless you are ready to send this large of an amount to your savings fund.

I am a person who was ready for a big amount to go to each savings fund. However, not everyone is me and most people are not like me with their finances, but are similar to how my husband was. He needed to start small with savings. He started with $50 to our baby fund and increased it to $75. He started with 6% to his retirement account to get the match from our employer. He then increased the retirement savings to 8% then 10% and now we are rocking at 13%! Only 2 more percents to get to our goal of 15% to retirement! Also, Dave Ramsey recommendation.

It is okay to start with $25 to your car fund, $25 to your house fund, $50 to your emergency fund, and 5% of your pay to your Roth IRA (your future matters!). Increase when you feel on top of the world. Like no one can get in the way. Even if you don’t feel on top of the world right now; you can start small. Obviously you are here for a reason and we are so glad you are! We hope you find an aha moment like I can do this! We want the best for you!

2. Keep Track of Your Expenses

This may seem easy, but often people overlook this part and find this step the part where they think budgeting is horrible.

Tracking your expenses is just like tracking your steps each day, but I would recommend tracking everyday unless you really need to slow your roll on spending money.

Schedule a day of the week you open up your bank account and look at your expenses. Be mindful of the money that is going out. Just as your mindful of eating sweets everyday or binge eating those donuts or Oreos. I am thinking about oreos right now– they sound so good!

Lets get back to money talk.

Looking back on the weeks expenses lets you know where you are doing good and where you can clean up a little bit. Its just like a good workout! What do you do good at and what do you need to work on?

Start your dream — get your income to work for you instead of you working for your income.

Here is our daily spending tracker to get you started!

3. Make a wish list of items that cost and save up for the purchase

This is a game changer!

Often people in the debt free community and the millionaires talk about saving up for the next big purchase. We do not sign up for the credit card at the store to save 15%. We do not get the deal when they have pay no APR interest rate for 6 months. These commercials right now with Covid-19 are killing me! No, do not finance a new car with no APR for 6 months and deferred payments! This is stupid. No do not do it! This is how you get into trouble with your finances!

We save up cash for the items we want. We discuss to make sure it is a good purchase. We place it on a list and then decide maybe I do not want it.

My little sister taught me this next one I am going to share with you all. She is a free spirit, a spender, and the one who taught me this trick to save and use my income to work for me. She loves to online shop like was the one who would get presents at the doorstep each month because she’s always buying the new clothes or make up.

Now here is what she does, she would leave the items she wanted in the shopping cart for awhile. To find if she really was in love with the items or if she could do without.

Most stores either send a coupon to remind us about the items in the cart or it was an item we don’t really want or need anymore after thinking about it.

A smart way to save you money!

Most of the time you say, I can do without this or I cannot believe I wanted that…that is not what I liked.

Your new dream… your old dream. Whatever the dream.

Be the beautiful scraps by figuring out how to make use of your current income to make big dreams come true by using these 3 ways: automatic savings, track expenses, and create a wish list.

I hope this is your starting point or your gas to generate your future plans. Whether you are new at trying to find your income to work for you or you just needed some juice to build your knowledge a new way.

11 reasons to Budget your Stimulus Check and how to start!

I often hear budgeting is hard, it is not easy. Budgeting takes time. I do not stay on budget, so why would I do one. Well I am glad you stated all these concerns because budgeting does take sometime, but it gives you control. It gives you a sense of peace, it gives you happiness, it gives you permission to spend money, and best of all it lets you build a future!

It takes 3 months to get your budget going, so do not feel like you failed after your first one. I have been budgeting for years and I still have times where my budget fails or have to change it. This happens! It is totally okay! Let’s go on and show you why you should start a budget today!

  • Coronavirus hit hard or another disaster
  • Family emergency came up and I could not afford it
  • I never thought I’d experience a hardship
  • You want to be a millionaire
  • You want to be a legacy for your family
  • You want to stop the debt cycle
  • You want to own your stuff
  • You seen people in the debt free community do it
  • You know you can have less fights in your marriage with a budget
  • You can make a difference by being generous

Where ever you fit in the above area, know you can start budgeting with the bullet journal budget tracker. Budgeting can change your life even if you have budgeted before and it did not work for you. Try this way of budgeting for 3 months, with easy copy and pasting, formulas already built in, and a guide for you!

If you are getting a stimulus check, start there! Here is an example for 2 adult checks and 1 child. Ensuring you have your 4 walls taken care of.

Giving a small amount of your stimulus check to a food bank, large tip for a restaurant, small business, church, etc. is good for the heart and it makes you feel good.

Your blessings that happened — Health and time spent with family. They are little things, but big blessing.

We did place a little bit in the savings fund because it is in our emergency fund incase we need it in the future because something breaks down.

As you can see above, we did not place any money in the spend a little you earned it because really the government is handing out money. This means you should probably not spend this money on clothes, because you already have clothes to wear and do not need the latest fashion. This also means you do not need alcohol, cigarettes, and random other party favors. My husband often in the past used to buy tattoos with his tax return money, but this is not the time to be using money to be buying things like that! We did not work for this money, and should be content with what items we have.

Hebrews 13:5 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”

The government is giving this money to us to give a little bit of an assistance. Give to people who need it more than us or pay the items we need to make it in the world such as rent, lights, water, etc.

If you want to spend money to support businesses, go ahead and support them but I believe this should be in your giving or your food budget. You will just need to stay within the budget you allotted. If we end up going to a local pizza place, we use the pizza as food money and the tip as our giving.

Of course, this will be different for everyone, but it gives you a little layout on how to start your budget with the stimulus check.

Quarantined with a Baby in our Tiny Home

Our routine has changed like everyone else’s since being quarantined, but living tiny has its benefits with social distancing. We used to try to get out and about by just walking around stores and window shopping to avoid postpartum depression, but now we’ve had to change to keep us safe.

Here is our new schedule to help keep us positive and uplifted:

7 am – Wake up, diaper change, dress, feed

8 am – Decaf coffee, breakfast for Mom, Good Morning America and play time with Ember

8:30 am – Devotional and prayer with Ember

8:45 am – Quick Jazzercise workout/learn routines; Ember watches mommy dance practicing sitting up or nap time

9:30 am – Feed, diaper change. Take dogs outside to play. Enjoy outside to know its day time and we should stay up and not sleep all day.

10 am – Nap time

11 am – Feed, diaper change, tummy time with books open to learn colors, numbers, produce, seasons, etc.

Noon – Mom eats…if I remember

12:30 pm – Play time

1 pm – Nap time, dad comes home

2 pm – Snack, change diaper, play

3 pm – Take dogs outside, go for walk, be outside enjoying the fresh air!

4 pm – Quick nap time

5 pm – Eat, diaper change, settle down with cuddles and relaxation time while dinner is cooking

6 pm – Relax

6:30 pm – Get ready for bed time. Bath, PJ’s, read book, eat, prayer before bed.

7 pm – Bed time.

The benefits of living tiny during this quarantine are that we live off a property that is not in an RV park or state park. Most state parks have closed up and are only for day time use, so we have had a benefit to not have to pack up and move because of a new guideline. We have a walking trail down to a small pond, we can have a fire at our own fire pit, let our dogs run around without a leash, smell the roses, and even leave when we have to dump the tanks at our local camping world for free with a Good Sams membership.

We are not in a traditional house so it does not feel like we are quaratined. Our lifestyle encourages us to be outside often. Like our schedule shows we are outside in the morning and in the afternoon with the baby. Sometimes once we put the baby down for the evening we often start up a fire in our firepit to enjoy the outdoor as well.

As we have hope that this quaratine is lifted, we also want all to be safe and are willing to do what we have to. If that means keeping ourselves positive and still live our tiny life without traveling. We will be excited when we can take our tiny home back on the road and enjoy new parks, trails, and Gods amazing nature. For now we stay parked and enjoy our own paradise with a minimum budget.

Start your budget today with the yearly bullet journal budget tracker. It is never too late to start! Especially in a time like this when people need to start budgeting, they find money they never knew they had! It’s like a income increase but with the money that you already have.

Candy? You can buy candy, but why not buy it in the regular aisle? Make it valentine’s day by finding some red or pink paper, tissue paper, or even regular paper and make a cute saying. See below for some freebie sayings to get you started:

  • Starburst — “You burst my heart and I love that about you!”
  • Suckers — “I am a sucker for you.”
  • Sour gummy worms – “You’re my valentine love bug.”

Flowers? Wait to buy them until the day after — did you know grocery stores upcharge a lot for them? They upcharge over 70% — how do I know this? We work for a grocery store. The candy vases that are 29.99 — the items in the vases are less than $10.00. Is your mouth dropping? Flowers are the same way! If you want to buy flowers, buy them late when they are discounted. Give your love a note saying, “I want to buy you something special for today, but they will be handpicked tomorrow.” Keep their mind going but let them know you are still thinking about Valentine’s Day.

Balloons? Want to know this — grocery stores make 50%+ gross profit off of them!

Cards? Yes they are cute, but I bet your love’d ones would love a creative card made from the paper you have at home more! Go to the greeting card aisle and take the ideas of sweet words and go make your own!
